KUALA LUMPUR: It looks like lady luck is smiling on team Petronas Raceline Malaysia’s Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah again.
The talented 18-year-old has been awarded a Moto2 wildcard ticket, his second for the upcoming Malaysian MotoGP which will take place at the Sepang International Circuit from Oct 19-21.
This will be Hafizh’s second wildcard ride in the Moto2 category of the world championships.
Hafizh has been making great strides in his career this year.
Having risen up the ranks from the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship and the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), Hafizh moved to Spain to become the first Malaysian to race full time in the Campeonata de Espana de Velocidad (CEV) Spanish motorcycle championship.
Currently competing with an FTR Moto2 bike, Hafizh has chalked up an impressive five top-five finishes from six races. He is sixth overall in the Moto2 class of the CEV and leads the privateers Cup.
Hafizh is now relishing the prospect of racing in front of his home crowd.
“I am delighted to be back and to compete in my second wildcard ride in Moto2. I have to say a big thank you to Petronas for that and for having the confidence in my abilities and for their incredible support. My focus and priority is to ramp up my preparations for the race at the MotoGP,” he said.
He hopes draw on his CEV experience to help him do better than last year, when he finished 20th out of 38 riders.
