THE Grand Valley Ballroom at the Kinta Riverfront Hotel will be filled with beautifully dressed dancers twirling and gliding on its floors during the 1st Ipoh International Dancesport Competition this Saturday.
The competition held by the Perak Society of Performing Arts and My Dancesport Studio in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2012 had received 200 entries from dancers all over the world.
My Dancesport Studio principal Yeap Yen Chin said the competition had attracted dancers from China, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore.
“As for locals, we have people from Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Penang signing up,” she said.
Yeap explained that the objective of the competition was to introduce the art of dancing to the public and help dancers build their careers.
“The competition will cater to dancers of different skill levels, from beginners to amateurs and from all age groups.
“We will also have both solo and couple categories as dancesport, also known as competitive ball room dancing, is starting to emerge as a solo dance recently,” she said, adding that she expected about 700 spectators to show up for the day and night events.
Evening dinner tickets are available at RM200 per pax (VIP table), RM160 per pax (front row) RM120 per pax (second row) and RM80 per pax (third row), while day event tickets (free seating) are only RM30 per pax.
