Family, friends bid MCA veteran adieu

GEORGE TOWN: Some 100 people attended the funeral of state MCA veteran Quah Eng Lam, who died in a road accident, at the Rifle Range funeral parlour here.

Party leaders like state MCA deputy chairman Datuk Dr Loh Hock Hun, state secretary Lau Chiek Tuan, state Wanita chief Tan Cheng Liang and Bukit Bendera division chief Tang Heap Seng were among those who paid their last respects.

Quah, 66, who was the Bukit Bendera MCA division deputy chairman and also the Rifle Range Residents’ Association chairman, died on the spot at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway after he was run over by a cement truck.

Family members were seen sobbing uncontrollably as they filed past Quah’s body at the funeral parlour yesterday. He was later cremated at the Batu Gantung crematorium.

The family also donated RM4,700 to SJK(C) Aik Hwa, the residents’ association and also 13 other associations and organisations.

Quah, a former TM Net sub-contractor, was sending his mechanic back to the workshop in Presgrave Street Ghaut on his motorcycle when the incident happened at about 9.30am on Tuesday. The mechanic escaped with only light injuries.

Quah joined MCA in the 1970s and was an active member for over 40 years.
