There were also makeshift stalls selling food and beverages, handicrafts, accessories and game stations at the carnival.

Form three student Jacalyn Tan Ying Xin, who was from the school’s Japanese Society, said she specially rented a blue kimono for the occasion.

Another student Caroline Lee Jia Le, 18, spent the whole night before the celebrations with two other classmates to make mashed potatoes to be sold at the school bazaar.

“We feel proud that my school is now 99 years old and want to do our part in helping the school raise funds so we decided to sell some food during the fair.

“It was a fun process to peel the potatoes ourselves and learn how to mash them properly as I rarely help out in the kitchen before this,” she said with a laugh.

She added that she would surely return to the school’s future anniversary celebrations even after she graduates this year.

Besides food and games, there was also a tug-of-war contest, fashion shows, students dressed up in Disney character mascots and pottery classes for students and the public to enjoy.
