IT WAS a night to honour successful entrepreneurs and their impassioned concern towards the welfare of the community.
Held for the first time, the Contributor Award 2012 initiated by World Trend Corporate Sdn Bhd, paid tribute to 20 recipients from Perak who have reached significant milestones in their respective fields.
Among the recipients, local film producer Jack Lim Teik Yin was presented with the Outstanding Personal Development award.
Expressing his gratitude for the award on stage, Lim said he was proud of Ipoh as it has produced many homegrown talents such as international film star Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh.
Lim, who hails from Pusing, said he wished to shoot a film in Ipoh.
“Through film, we will be able to introduce Ipoh to a greater audience,” he said.
Lim whose previous films Great Day and Ah Beng the Movie: Three Wishes were shot in Kuantan and Perlis, has turned several places into tourist spots.
Meanwhile, another seven recipients who received the Honourable Award were Ban Lee Hin Group chairman Datuk Dr Tony Looi Chee Hong, Sunway Group Exco member Puan Sri Dr Susah Cheah, Morubina Group managing director Datuk Ting Sing Yiew, Bandacaya Group chief executive officer Sir Tan Sri Prof Dr David Lai, Cani Mega Education Sdn Bhd managing director Dr Alphared Lim Boon Teck, Ang Piew Sculptural Sdn Bhd founder Datuk Ong Ang Pieu and Datin Janet Yeoh.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who presented the Honourable Award to the winners, said the award was consistent with the state government’s effort in moulding young talents in their respective careers and hope their achievement could spur others to follow their footsteps.
“I hope the recipients will keep up the good work and contribute to the development of the country,” he said.
Award organising chairman Jenson Ng, who was also World Trend Corporate Sdn Bhd founder and chief executive officer, said the continuous support from the state government would enable the award to become an annual event in Ipoh.
The Contributor Award advisor Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said the award would catalyse the spirit of entrepreneurship in the corporate world.
