OVERSEEING the bustling city of Ipoh is no simple task as Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim knows.
Time is of the essence in his busy schedule, which is a reason Roshidi is now opting to try out The Star’s new ePaper.
“I flip through six to seven newspapers each morning to check on any issues concerning Ipoh.
“With this ePaper, I’ll be able to read The Star, and especially the StarMetro Perak section, while travelling in my car.
“It is both fast and convenient,” he said in an interview.
The Ipoh mayor was in Penang yesterday on his first visit to Star Northern Hub in Bayan Lepas.
He was taken on a tour of the newsroom and printing presses and was also given a preview of The Star’s new smartphone application iSnap.
“The application is truly amazing,” said Roshidi.
“It is a first for newspapers in Malaysia and I congratulate The Star on its commitment to be innovators using the latest technology available,” he said.
He joked that it was “time to change” his two BlackBerrys to either Android or iOS-based phones that support the iSnap application.
On nation building and the development of Ipoh, Roshidi extended his thanks to pressmen who strove to provide balanced stories to the public.
“The best way to attract readers nowadays is to give balanced reports and not stories that are skewed to one side or another,” he said.
He added that The Star’s current newspaper and ePaper promotional bundle, which offers a year’s subscription of both for just RM260, was a good deal.
“I encourage all, especially the (Ipoh City Council) executives and department heads, to take up this offer.
“They are all very busy and will benefit from having a source of information while they are on the go,” said Roshidi.
Roshidi was accompanied by Ipoh City Council assistant secretary (management) Saidatul Akma Jamaludin and aides Mohd Syahrizal Azmi and Suhaimi Ramli.
They were shown around the building by Star Publications (M) Bhd executive director Tan Sri Kamal Hashim, regional operations manager Chung Chok Yin, regional editor (north) Choi Tuck Wo, advertising sales and business development (north) senior manager Simone Liong, circulation manager (north) Oun Sui Leng and IT manager (north) Khoo Boo Taik.
From May 1 to July 31, subscribers of The Star newspaper and ePaper bundle package stand to win a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus every day.
Subscription forms are available at The Star offices in George Town, Bayan Lepas, Seberang Jaya, Alor Setar and Ipoh.
