MARCH 16-18: The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) will be conducting its annual caving course which covers workshops on cave geology, flora, fauna, archaeology and conservation; abseiling a 50m cliff with modern techniques used by cavers and cave exploration activities. The cost is RM350 for MNS members and RM420 for non-members. Please call or e-mail to register.

TODAY: To celebrate International Women’s Day, Amnesty International (AI) will be screening two movies in remembrance of women from two eras and different continents. The first, Made In Dagenham (11am–1pm), is based on a true story of the Ford women car workers’ strike in 1968, when female staff sewing seat covers for Ford cars went on strike for the same wage as men. The second is The Color Purple (1pm–3.30pm), a heart-tugging film about the trials and tribulations of black women in America, and how one woman survived despite all the abuse and poverty. You can pick up your tickets at the AI booth in Cineleisure. Donations are welcome.

MARCH 6 & 7: There will be a two-day workshop for those who want to write press releases or publicity articles for media publications. The highly interactive workshop also caters to those involved in producing and/or editing copies such as editorials, reports, features, interview pieces and reviews for media and in-house publications. The workshop will be conducted by Kee Thuan Chye, a journalist with more than 30 years experience. He will share the secrets of good writing.

MARCH 11: Learn how to make your own beaded necklace, bracelet or earrings when you master the technique of bead-joining with wire loops, jump rings or chain. Participants get to choose between attending the introductory workshop, which focuses on a simple loop technique to make a bracelet and matching earrings, or the intermediate workshop, which homes in on the double-wrap loop technique to make a necklace and matching earrings. Open to those 12 years and above. Workshop fee: RM120 per person, inclusive of materials. Time: 10am-1pm (introductory workshop) or 2.30pm-5.30pm (intermediate workshop).

BEGINNING MARCH 10: MIA will also be conducting pottery classes for beginners, intermediate and advance levels. Suitable for secondary school children and adults, the classes will be available in two sessions; 10am-12.30pm and 2pm-4.30pm. There are eight lessons in each level which include firing and glazing sessions. Prior registration is required.
