RESPONDING to a letter to the
editor on Feb 14 titled “Illegal car jockey parking the bane of
motorists” about unauthorised jockeys extorting money in Bangsar Baru, Desa Hartamas, Cangkat Bukit Bintang and Jalan Berangan,

DBKL said that they were aware of the illegal car jockeys and their activities.
Last year, 358 arrests were made through Operation Jaga under Section 50(3) of the 1987 Road Transportation Act.
The act states action can be taken against those manning public parking spots without jurisdiction or legal authorisation.
Of the 358 arrested, the Chow Kit area showed the highest number of arrested illegal jockeys, which is 124; followed by Masjid India with 83; the Bukit Bintang Area with 59; the Pudu area with 29, Jalan Petaling area with 27 and 36 in other areas around Kuala Lumpur.
Those arrested were brought before the DBKL Magistrate Court and sentenced to fines and jail sentences.
