ALOR SETAR: A Bangladeshi man was sentenced to three years' jail and fined RM15,000, in default a year's jail, by the Sessions Court here Thursday for bribing a Kedah Immigration officer.
Judge Mohd Sobri Ismail handed down the sentence on a construction labourer, Abu Hanif Toyah Ali, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Abu Hanif, 24, was charged with offering a RM3,000 bribe to Nurul Huda Che Khalid for her to release his brother-in-law, Md Shohag Miah, who was allegedly detained by the Immigration Department.
The offence was committed at the Kedah Immigration Department office at Bandar Mu'adzam Shah (Anak Bukit) near here about 4.45pm Tuesday.
