Chua: Malacca MCA Wanita chief should voluntarily quit

JASIN: The Malacca MCA Wanita chief should voluntarily relinquish her position in the party if her inclination is more towards the Opposition's struggle, said Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

The MCA president said Datuk Kian Sit Har had a right to support any political party and MCA had no intention of preventing her from doing so.

“However, she should realise that she was elected to her current position by MCA and Barisan Nasional members and should voluntarily resign if she has no confidence in Barisan principles,” he said after a dinner at Alamanda Hall here on Thursday night.

Dr Chua was asked to respond to a statement by state Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam that the coalition would no longer endorse Kian as MCA Wanita chief following her presence at the anti-Lynas demonstration in Dataran Merdeka on Nov 25.

Mohd Ali, who is also Chief Minister, said this was the second time Kian had openly supported such demonstrations organised by the Opposition.

“To me, she doesn't exist in Barisan. She is an opportunist who was willing to pawn her allegiance for political mileage,” he was quoted as saying by a Malay daily.

Kian also participated in the Bersih 3.0 rally at Dataran Pahlawan in April.

Dr Chua said while MCA wouldn't force anyone to leave the party, an individual who had deviated from MCA and Barisan's tenets should have the political courage to leave.

“It's unfair for someone to enjoy all the benefits by MCA and Barisan while supporting the Opposition,” he said.

Kian meanwhile is adamant about staying and claimed that she had not done anything wrong.
