ONE can never go wrong with sampling the KOI Japanese Cuisine in Gurney Plaza, Penang.
Its imaginative dishes — inspired by traditional Japanese preparations and infused with modern Asian and Western accents — are heaven to the taste buds.
With a tagline of ‘there’s something for everyone’, the outlet enables diners to indulge their palates on a vast selection of quality dishes at an affordable price.
The highlights are the 36 signature dishes categorised under maki, salad, cold and hot dishes.
The creative menu also includes fresh
sashimi and sushi, ramen, handroll, teppanyaki items, gohanrui (rice) and value-for-money set meals.
KOI also offers patrons the freedom to
create their own bento box from over 30 choices according to their preference and budget.
The pork-free restaurant also caters to
vegetarians as well as the little ones with its Creative KOI Kiddy’s Sets and innovative desserts including refreshing beverages.
Located on the second floor of Gurney Plaza (New Wing), the outlet has recently introduced new creations of Saba Steak, Toro Steak, Volcano Salmon Roll, Baked Scallop and Salmon Aburi Yaki.
Served sizzling hot on teppan plates, the saba and toro steaks are deliciously paired with goma (sesame) sauce that has been spiced up with the chef’s special touch.
Textural contrast comes to the fore with the former’s crunchy edge while the latter is all about tender meaty goodness.
Get a kick from the salmon roll and scallop with the outlet’s re-invented dressing.
The slightly seared salmon Aburi Yaki is a result of a request for an alternative to raw fish.
To further whet one’s appetite are the maki such as Pink Sakura (fried crab stick and sweet omelette), Deadliest Catch (tuna and crab), Bread Crunch (rolled with bread and nori), Rock & Roll (spicy soft shell crab), Florida (spicy tuna) and Orange Dragon (prawn tempura).
KOI’s hot selling sushi buffet is held every few months, and it will be back again from Dec 10 to Dec 16 to delight diners.
Eat all you can at the buffet exclusive of drinks. It is priced at only RM28+ for adults and RM15+ for children.
Prior reservations are required for the three sessions starting from 1pm to 3pm, 5.30pm to 7.30pm and 8pm to 10pm.
The restaurant has also come out with a member card for regulars.
Pay a RM20 membership to enjoy a host of privileges including 10% discount on the menu (except on desserts and beverages), and
attractive monthly promotion of up to 50%
KOI is open from 10am to 10pm daily.
