MALACCA: Teenage participants of a poster colouring contest can stand a chance to win a trip to the United States and RM15,000 cash in the international-level Peace Poster Contest.
The contest, organised by the Lions Club, is aimed at encouraging youngsters between the ages of 11 and 13 to express what peace means to them in a creative manner.
The Lions Clubs of District 308 B1 held the contest in Seremban yesterday, which saw 620 participants from Malacca taking part.
Organising chairman Helen Teo said entries from Malacca stood out from the rest of the entries.
“The contest for this year is based on the theme ‘Imagine Peace’, in which the participants can share their unique images of peace, promoting greater tolerance and international understanding.
“This year marks the 25th anniversary of the contest and the winner will be picked by an international panel of judges which will be convened in February next year,” she said yesterday.
Teo said yesterday’s contest also attracted participants from Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Johor and Negri Sembilan.
“The past winners were from other countries. For this year’s contest, we are very optimistic that Malaysia will come out on top as we have received positive feedback from our international partners, noting that the posters we have submitted for this contest show promise to be included in the finals,” she added.
