Swedish giant launches charity drive for children

CHRISTMAS is coming early this year for some as Swedish furniture giant Ikea plans to raise money to help children across the world get access to better education.

The retailer just launched its Ikea Soft Toys for Education Campaign where for every soft toy purchased, the company donates €1 (RM4) to projects supported by Unicef and Save the Children.

Into its ninth year, this campaign collected €12.4mil (RM49mil) in 2011 for both NGOs and €47.5mil (RM188.2mil) in total since it first launched the campaign in 2003.

Funds raised are donated to Unicef and Save the Children to support and extend their projects that benefit children through better schooling, such as creating child-friendly school environments with well-trained teachers for all children, not forgetting ethnic minorities and those with special needs.

To-date, the Ikea Soft Toys for Education Campaign has helped improve the lives of more than eight million children.

The campaign is ongoing until Dec 20, so head over to Ikea’s store in Petaling Jaya and see how one little toy can make a difference.
