From the depths of the ocean, comes the ultimate in skincare technology, to yield extraordinary skin-renewing benefits.
EVER thought about what goes into your face creams and lotions?
Don’t worry, this isn’t about rat’s tails, bat droppings or some outlandish brew that might have found its way into your skincare collection. This isn’t that kind of story.
Rather, it’s about bringing your attention to one of the most expensive ingredients which money can’t buy. And, there’s exact science involved in combining this premium ingredient with a luxury skincare serum.
Skincare companies have scoured the world and come up with some pretty amazing stuff thus far. Rare caviar, gold flakes, titanium bits, rare metals and plants, marine fermented culture, mushrooms ... the list is far from being exhaustive.
Here’s one that’s almost as old as time: inspired by the depths of the Antarctic Oceaan, the latest breakthrough in skincare technology, and probably one of the most expensive to date is ... glacial bioextract.
Considered as one of the most challenging environments to sustain life, the Antarctica has been left mostly untouched due to its extreme weather conditions, where winter can reach extremes of -70˚C.
Yet a particular organism, the Pseudoalteromonas Ferment, identified by its protective, glycoprotein matrix, manages to thrive in this harsh climate. This was discovered in 1988 by Spanish biologist Dr Josefina Castellvi, who specialised in marine and polar sciences.
Fueled by this Antarctic discovery, Estee Lauder developed a unique, highly advanced eight-step proprietary process of cultivation, tri-filtration and super-concentration over a 10 day period, that’s claimed to yield the optimal purity and potency of Pseudoalteromonas Ferment for extraordinary skin-renewing benefits.
Sustainably cultivated through carefully controlled fermentation conditions simulating the pristine ocean eco-system, Estee Lauder’s exclusive, highly potent Glacial BioExtract is said to help boost skin’s natural elastin production in order to restore skin’s strength and resilience.
Available exclusively in its Re-Nutriv Re-Creation, this precious essence helps to keep skin cells hydrated, healthy and protected.
Created to work in synergy with the Re-Nutriv Re-Creation face creme and eye balm, Re-Nutriv Re-Creation’s night serums for the face and eye area also offer a selection of highly refined, precious oils and lipids from exotic plants and other naturally derived ingredients sourced from around the globe.
The serums are touted to infuse skin with much needed extra rich, vital hydration at night so that skin feels more supple, replenished and luxuriously comforted by morning.
According to Dr Nadine Pernodet, Estee Lauder’s executive director of Skin Biology, Research and Development, one requires two formulae for both the face and eye areas so as to take advantage of the circadian rhythms of skin.
“For example, Re-Nutriv Re-Creation Face Creme is a rich, restorative creme that works during the day to help skin boost its natural collagen and elastin network. The look of lines and wrinkles, and discoloration are reduced and clarity is restored. By night, the combination of the serum and creme for both face and eye work together to optimise skin’s vital restorative functions.
“The serums were specially designed for night time application to not only take advantage of a time when skin is most receptive to absorbing restorative benefits, but also to help prepare skin for the enhanced absorption of the creme,” she said in a press statement.
Re-Nutriv Re-Creation Night Serum and Night Serum for Eyes offer a nourishing infusion of lipids to help restore skin’s natural hydration and moisture barrier. Additionally, the precious oil from sea-sourced Padina helps regulate skin calcium levels for optimal anti-ageing benefits at night.
By regulating the presence of calcium at the skin’s surface, it becomes stronger, fortified and resilient to irritation.
The elixir of precious oils is made up of Karanja oil, evening primose oil, Padina, Tahitian Monoi oil, Amazon Acai nut oil and African Moringa oil.
The Karanja tree comes from India and is often used in Ayurvedic medicine in the treatment of numerous skin concerns. Evening primrose oil is known for its therapeutic and skin-renewing benefits while Padina, a brown algae cultivated in the Mediterranean Sea, has a natural ability to grow its own protective, calcified shell.
Used in the eye serum, Tahitian Monoi oil is found in the tropics and possesses exceptional skin-hydrating benefits, and the Amazon Acai Nut oil has powerful anti-oxidant power. Last, but not least, the African Moringa is often referred to as the “miracle tree” because of its numerous benefits and vitamin-rich content.
“Each precious oil was specially chosen because of its unique composition – they are all rich in essential skin lipids and natural anti-oxidant concentrations. The absorption of our blend of oils is key to its effectiveness. These precious, yet essential oils restore the skin’s moisture barrier, helping it retain moisture so that it looks supple and radiant. They also help enhance the moisturisation benefits of the creme and eye balm, and create a sensual experience that infuses the skin with extra comfort and luxury at night,” she added.
Separate products were created specifically for the eye area as it is thinner and more fragile than any other area of the face. It’s also the most prone to the accumulation of cellular damage, where skin is most susceptible to dryness, and the constant movement contributes to the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
The Re-Creation day and night eye formulas have been created to work in synergy to gently brighten and smoothen this delicate area, reducing the look of dark circles and puffiness, as well as crepiness around the eye.
The formulations come infused with the highest concentration of Estee Lauder’s Re-Nutriv signature Life Re-Newing Molecules, said to help restore key natural cellular functions, thanks to key ingredients such as Phormidium Persicinum, which deliver reparative and protective benefits while EGT, an amino acid, recharges the skin’s energy. Meanwhile, Laminaria Digitata extract helps the skin restore its own natural ability to produce energy and encourages optimal skin cell performance.
The face creme also contains rich emollients which increase the skin’s moisture levels; rare and precious Micro-Mineral Concentrate; Hawaiian Deep Sea Water; Colloidal Gold and other anti-irritants, that all work together to nourish and soothe the skin.
After massaging the serum into the skin, apply the Re-Nutriv Recreation Face Creme. Do the same for the serum for eyes and eye balm.
The face creme has a light fragrance of creamy green floral notes and wood musky bottom notes, while the eye products are unscented to avoid irritation.
The Re-Nutriv Face Creme and Night Serum set is priced at RM3,000, while the Eye Balm and Night Serum For Eye set costs RM1,600. Available exclusively at Estee Lauder counters.
