Celebrities dash through hypermarket to win vouchers for chosen charities

TO ADD to the excitement of Tesco Extra Mutiara Daman-sara’s grand opening, four local celebrities were paired up in Tesco’s Charity Hunt for a dash through the hypermarket completing checkpoint tasks to win up to RM32,000 worth of vouchers for charity.

TV chef Sherson Lian, TV host and producer Sasha Bashir, Mix FM’s Charlene Wong and singer Alvin Anthons joined forces for a chance to win RM10,000 in Tesco vouchers for charities of their choice in the Amazing Race-style Charity Hunt organised by Tesco Malaysia.

The celebrities were divided into pairs as the men and women teams went through the various Tesco Extra Worlds completing tasks such as dribbling a ball, assembling a standing fan, dressing mannequins and shopping for grocery items at Tesco Extra Mutiara Damansara, before racing to the finish line for their shot at the winning prize.

The teams were flagged off by Tesco Malaysia chief executive officer SungHwan Do during Tesco Extra Mutiara Damansara’s grand opening.

After a fast-paced and nerve-wrecking 10 minutes, Lian and Anthons were victorious as they were the first team to arrive at the finish line with Sasha and Wong close on their tail.

“We were really nervous because our team was behind at the beginning of the hunt.

“But we managed to muster our courage and push ourselves to overtake the other team in the latter part of the hunt,” said Anthons.

“It was really chaotic during the hunt. We were running around the store shouting here and there.

“I am very happy that the new Tesco Extra at Mutiara Daman-sara is more spacious and has a nicer layout.

“It was easy for us to get around the store without running into the other customers,” said Lian.

Lian donated the prize of RM10,000 in Tesco vouchers to a community clinic in Sunway Mentari and to El- Santuary, a Christian community centre in Malacca, while Anthons donated his RM10,000 Tesco vouchers to Yayasan Chow Kit.

As a token of their participation, Wong and Sasha received RM5,000 Tesco vouchers each for a charity of their choice.

The animal lovers donated their prize money to SPCA Ampang Jaya and PAWS respectively.

Tesco Malaysia organised the hunt to further highlight their community promise.

The newly transformed Tesco Extra Mutiara Damansara offers 6,000 new products, new mall tenants, additional ATMs, WiFi and improved carpark system.
