FORMER principal Hwong Seng, 61, with his well-developed sense of responsibility, never gave up on his job and instead, did his best to become a good teacher.
And for his deep devotion to teaching, he was chosen as Penang northeast district’s Tokoh Guru this year.
“I feel honoured and fortunate to be given the privilege to receive this award. It has been great working with the teachers during my days as the principal in SMJK Jit Sin and therefore, I would like to share the award with them,” he said at the northeast district Teacher’s Day celebration at the Sunshine Square banquet hall in Bayan Baru.
Hwong also wore many hats as he was not only an educator but also a regular contributor to the editorial cartoon of The Star newspaper from 1980 to 1982.
Two other award recipients were S. Marieyapuspam, 64, and Fatimah Yahaya, 60.
Marieyapuspam expressed her happiness on receiving the award.
