PETALING JAYA: Police say the SMS messages circulating about a syndicate which uses crying children to trap unsuspecting women in order to rob or rape them is fake.
Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin said the public should not be duped by the message, which has been circulating nationwide since last year.
“We have conducted thorough investigations into this matter and have confirmed that there is no syndicate using such a modus operandi,” he said.
The SMS, which is partly in Bahasa Malaysia and English, cautions women to be aware of a syndicate using crying children to lure them into traps in which they would be either raped, kidnapped or robbed.
The SMS also states that it originated from Asst Supt Suman Kumar from D-9 Bukit Aman.
Bakri said a check revealed that there was no such officer working at Bukit Aman.
He urged the public to be cautious at all times as there were criminals constantly on the lookout for unsuspecting victims.
