Buyers tired of waiting for housing project to be revived

DESPITE promises by the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) to revive a 10-year-old abandoned housing project in Taman Topaz, Dengkil, the scheme has yet to be completed, leaving buyers frustrated.

There is no news on the project being revived although the PCB assured buyers nine months ago that their homes will be completed. The buyers have been repaying their bank loans for the past 10 years, hoping to get their dream homes.

In July last year, former deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk T. Murugiah gave the assurance to about 20 people at the PCB office after a meeting with officers from the Housing and Local Government Ministry, Selangor Housing Board, Sepang Municipal Council, Malaysian Insolvency Department and the liquidator.

Murugiah had visited the site of the abandoned project earlier in June last year and promised house buyers that drastic measures would be taken to revive the project under the Abandon Project Rehabilitation Division of the Housing Ministry.

The medium-cost apartments were 80% complete before it was abandoned by the developer.

House buyer Allan Hoong Wei Loon has become the lone voice fighting for his rights and demanded to know when the project would be completed.

Hoong said the wait had been too long and wanted to see an end to his misery because he could no longer make ends meet.

“Like the others, I have to pay my bank loans. I cannot afford to look beyond this property. It has been about a year since the news was reported, and we want to know where we can follow up for the current status on the project,’’ he asked in an e-mail message.

The walk-up apartment project consists of three blocks of seven-storey of 527 units, costing bet-ween RM40,000 and RM60,000.

Sepang Municipal Council public relations officer Zelda Mohd Zamri said so far no developers had shown interest in developing the project.

She said the council was still waiting for the green light from the PCB.
