AFTER nearly 20 years, the Catholic community of Subang Jaya finally have a church of their own.
The Church of St Thomas More at the UEP Industrial Park in Subang Jaya was opened by Archbishop Rev Murphy Pakiam on Sunday.
More than 3,000 Catholics from all over the Klang Valley attended the opening of the three-storey building which can seat almost 1,000 people.
Archbishop Murphy said the opening of the church was a historic event and was a result of the hard work and prayers of the parishoners and the community.
“We must thank the government for approving the building of the church which the Catholic community had been seeking for so long.
“A lot of effort had been put in by many people to make this a reality,” he said.
Parish priest Father Simon Labrooy urged parishoners to continue to pray and live the way of the Patron saint of the church — St Thomas More.
Father Labrooy said finally the Catholic community had a place to call home although it was located in an industrial area.
He thanked the state authorities, including the local council and the police for their assistance.
