KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor PAS leader Datuk Dr Hasan Ali's claim that Muslims would be influenced by Christians using high-tech devices to proselytise to them is insulting, said Islamic scholar Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.
"It is an insult to Muslims and the Islamic faith.
"As if Muslims who listen to Bible readings would eventually be swayed," Dr Asri said in a statement Friday.
The former Perlis mufti said it was as if the Bible's influence surpasses that of the al-Quran.
He was responding to the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department's (Jais) claim that it had found a solar-powered "hand-held audio Bible" used to spread Christianity.
State executive councillor Datuk Dr Hasan Ali said Thurday that Jais discovered the audio device while conducting research on proselytisation of Muslims in the state.
