KANGAR: Former speaker of the Perlis state assembly, Datuk Fadzil Mahmood, died early Wednesday at his home in Kampung Surau, Utan Aji, near here. He was 73.
His third son, Faisal, 35, said his father died at 3.30am.
Fadzil had been brought home the previous evening from the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital where he was admitted on June 2 for treatment of a heart ailment.
Fadzil's wife, Datin Fatimah Ismail had died on May 6 at the age of 71.
Fadzil was the speaker of the Perlis state assembly from Sept 9, 1986 to Oct 4, 1990 when Tan Sri Dr Abdul Hamid Pawanteh was the mentri besar of the state.
The former Utan Aji elected representative was also a state executive councillor from 1990 to 1995.
Fadzil leaves behind four children, two of them sons, Faiz, 42 and Faisal, and two daughters, Faniza, 39, and Fazlin, 33, and five grandchildren.
