SIBU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced Wednesday that RM18mil would be given to 60 Chinese aided primary schools, five independent Chinese secondary schools and two missionary schools here.
Sixty Chinese aided schools would get RM10mil while five Chinese independent secondary schools will get RM5mil, he said during a gathering with teachers and Chinese school associations.
SK St Mary will get RM1mil and SMK Sacred Heart will get RM2mil.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Najib said that the Barisan Nasional government would continue to do more for Chinese education in the country.
"The Barisan government is a true friend of Chinese education," he said when addressing more than 3,000 Chinese educationists.
He said it was a fact that the community valued education very highly and would sacrifice everything for it.
"But at the same time, you will need the help of the government for it," he said.
