Ibrahim Ali sues for defamation over Perkasa article

SHAH ALAM: Independent MP Datuk Ibrahim Ali has filed a suit against the Sun Media Corporation and its chiefs over an article, which he claimed allegedly defamed him.

He named The Sun group chief editor and managing director, writer Terence Fernandez, and publisher Sun Media Corporation Sdn Bhd as defendants in his suit filed at the Shah Alam High Court on Thursday.

In his statement of claim, Ibrahim, who is also Malay rights group Perkasa chief, said the English newspaper had defamed him in an article entitled Sultan Keeps Perkasa Guessing on Invitation.

He alleged that the article gave the innuendoes that he was a leader of a "chauvinist" group and he was "extreme in championing the rights of a certain race."

He told reporters later that he was seeking RM10mil in damages.
