KUALA LUMPUR: An advertisement factory in Section 4, 11th mile Jalan Balakong, Cheras , was destroyed by fire on Wednesday morning, resulting in RM4 million losses.
Hulu Langat Fire and Rescue deputy superintendent Mazlan Zainol said the 4.40am fire started at a store in the central portion of the Kingsmen Sdn Bhd factory.
There was only one graphic artist on the first floor of the factory, which housed the office, at the time of the fire while the other 150 workers had yet to report for work.
"We received a call at 4.45am and found the fire raging when we got to the scene five minutes later," Mazlan told reporters.
He said 45 fire fighters in five engines from the Kajang, Ampang, Bangi, Serdang and Port Klang fire stations managed to bring the blaze under control in 30 minutes.
The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the factory's human resources manager, Fong Fui Hing, said the factory covering an area of 4,000 sq ft had been operating in the area for five years.
He said the company had been in operation in Malaysia for 27 years and had 13 branches nationwide. This was the first incident involving a huge loss.
The graphic artist, who wanted to be identified only as Eddy, said he was working in the office when he smelled something burning.
He called the security guards asking them to check and when told that there was a fire at the factory, he rushed out to safety. - BERNAMA
