NIBONG TEBAL: A contract worker who allegedly showed the middle finger at another driver was bludgeoned to death with a big stone after a 15km high-speed car chase here.
The deceased was identified as Lim Gim Beng, 52, from Simpang Ampat near here. He suffered injuries on his head and died at a construction site of a flyover at Jalan Paboi in Bukit Tambun.
The drama began at about 1.30am when Lim was returning to his house. A car knocked into his car’s rear at the traffic light junction at Bukit Panchor here.
Lim chased after the car and both cars scraped each other at another traffic light junction in Sungai Bakap.
This was where Lim allegedly showed the obscene sign to the other driver, who flew into a rage. The man chased after Lim’s car until both of them lost control of their vehicles in Bukit Tambun.
The drama ended tragically for Lim at about 2am when both of them came out of their cars and got involved in a heated argument.
Lim, who was hit on the head with a big stone, collapsed and died on the spot.
South Seberang Prai OCPD Supt Shafien Mamat told a press conference that police later traced the suspect to his house in Taman Alma in Bukit Mertajam after they found the car number plate at the scene.
He said the suspect was not in but agreed to surrender after police called him on his handphone.
Supt Shafien said the suspect, a forwarding clerk, was arrested when he turned himself in at the Simpang Ampat police station at 11am yesterday.
“The suspect admitted he consumed alcohol. We also recovered a blood-stained stone,” said Supt Shafien.
Lim’s body was sent to the Sungai Bakap Hospital for a post-mortem.
