THE relocation of the Butterworth traffic police branch back to its former premises on Jalan Kedah, Kepala Batas, is aimed at improving service to the public and efficiency in the investigations of accident cases.
Penang Deputy Chief Police Officer Senior Asst Comm (I) Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the public could verify their traffic summonses at the branch office and also the district headquarters in Bertam.
“The new branch office will be headed by a police officer with the rank of an ASP and he will have six inspectors, a 42-strong personnel and a patrol car with him.
“Priority is given to this district as the accident rate had increased quite drastically from 3.974 cases in 2008 to 4,858 last year.
“In the first three months of this year, there are already 1,239 cases,” he said at the opening of the new premises on Friday.
Also present was OCPD Asst Comm Zulkifli Alias.
