PETALING JAYA: The entry list of the 16th edition of the Tour of Langkawi (LTdL) from Jan 23-Feb 1 just got better with the inclusion of European pro team Colnago-CSF yesterday.
The team are one of the regulars in the Giro d’Italia – cycling’s second biggest event after the Tour de France.
They will be making a return to Malaysia after last featuring in 2008 under team CSF-Navigare.
With 33 stage wins to their name since competing in the LTdL from 1998, they will be one of the teams to look out for when the race kicks off in Langkawi.
“We’re glad to come back because the organisation of the event is always great and this is, for sure, a nice experience for our young riders,” said team manager Roberto Reverberi.
The team missed last year’s LTdL as it clashed with the European tours and their return next year will mark their first race of the season.
Four riders will be making their professional debut for the team in the LTdL. They are Paolo Locatelli, Omar Lombardi, Angelo Pagani and Andrea Pasqualon.
The four will be joined by Alberto Contolo, who will be riding in his second season with the team, alongside Andrea Piechele, making it an all-Italian line-up.
With the Giro as the main target this year, Reverberi said they would take caution when charting out their strategy for the 10-stage race.
“Since the mountain stages of Cameron and Genting Highlands (Stages 4 and 5) will be held on consecutive days, there will be more breakaways in the following stages,” he said.
“On a positive note, most of the stages are pretty short and it suits us as we’re at the start of the season.”
