KUALA LUMPUR: Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad has been suspended for six months as Shah Alam PAS chief and member of the party’s political bureau by the PAS discipline committee.
The committee also decided to issue a written warning to Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hassan Ali.
The decision was announced by committee chairman Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man after meeting for two hours on Friday.
Tuan Ibrahim said both could appeal the decision within 30 days.
He said Khalid was found guilty of revealing confidential details on the state party meeting.
“Khalid also criticised the Hassan who is the party’s state leader,” he said.
Hassan on the other hand, was found to have committed an offence by challenging the Special Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) of the Selangor state assembly.
He also cricitised the appointment of Liow Siew Moi as Selangor State Development Corporation general manager.
Tuan Ibrahim said the decision was made unanimously.
On Khalid’s case, he said the committee found that there was a prima facie case on both allegations against him.
“We consider Khalid’s cases to be more serious than what he had stated. Furthermore, they have a direct effect on the party,” he said.
He added that anything discussed in the state party meeting was confidential and should not be revealed.
He also said as division chief, Khalid had avenues to voice his opinions.
Discipline committee member Datuk Wan Mutalib Embong meanwhile said Khalid was also accused of openly criticising Hassan who is also a state exco member.
“We see these as party issues which must be solved internally and not through open criticisms and calls for him (Hassan) to resign as exco member,” he said.
On Hassan’s criticism of Selcat, Wan Mutalib said the body was set up by the state administration.
“Anything concerning the body should be decided within exco meetings and not outside,” he said.
He added that the powers of appointment for the corporation was the prerogative of the Mentri Besar.
“Any disatisfaction over those issues should be dealth with directly with the Mentri Besar and not via the media,” he said.
Hassan was present at the meeting while Khalid was away in Saudi Arabia.
