PETALING JAYA: Malaysian bowler Shalin Zulkifli made an impressive start in the PBA women’s series when she reached the second stage of the season-opening Viper Championships at the Thunderbowl Lanes in Michigan on Saturday.
Shalin had a 14-game total of 2,965 to finish eighth out of 20 bowlers.
The 31-year-old posted lines of 154-246-237-211-268-214-211 for a 1,541 total in the first block and bowled 177-199-198-212-214-191-233 for 1,424 in the second.
Top American professional Carolyn Dorin Ballard, representing Texas, topped the opening stage by posting 3,157 followed by Nevada’s Wendy Macpherson (3,127) and Chicago’s Diandra Asbaty (3,126).
In the second round matchplay competition, involving the top eight bowlers, Shalin took on top seed Ballard in the first match.
In last season’s series, Shalin gave creditable performances against the top American professionals. Her best outing was a fifth place in a seven-competition series.
