Dying to see Devils

ABOUT 1,000 football fans turned up at Studio V in 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya, on Saturday in the hope of getting free tickets to watch Manchester United play in Kuala Lumpur.

The first 500 Star readers who presented the seven coupons printed in the newspaper from July 1 to July 7 were eligible for a draw to get the RM308, RM68 or RM58 ticket plus a training session pass.

Some die-hard United fans were so determined to get their hands on a set of match tickets and free training passes that they camped out at the mall.

Murali Haripalan, 25, from Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur, was there since 8pm the previous night and waited for 15 hours as the redemption counter only opened at 11am.

Another two ardent supporters who also camped out overnight were Abby Azahari Mohd Ridzuan, 28, and Aizat Aiman Lau, 13.

Aizat, a big fan of goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, said he was thrilled that United signed on former Newcastle’s Michael Owen.

Besides Manchester United fans, a group of friends decided to get the free tickets to support the Malaysian team.

SMK Damansara Jaya student Ong Li Wen, 15, came with a group of friends, some of whom were wearing the Malaysian team jersey and headband.

“We’re going to be there to cheer on our national team,” said Ong, as her friend erupted into cheers of Malaysia Boleh!

The area around Studio V was packed with people and the line went around the studio and spilled out to the entrance of the shopping mall.

Long line: Hundreds of people have started queueing up at Studio V in 1 Utama, forming a line that spilled out to the entrance of the shopping mall.

The 500 tickets were given out by noon and about 500 others who were still waiting in line with their coupons received a training pass each.

Those with the training passes will be able to watch the team’s training session at Bukit Jalil on Friday evening.

Winners of the RM308 tickets also got an exclusive photo session with the Manchester United mascot Fred the Red.
