MASTERSKILL University College of Health Sciences (MUCH) emerged as the overall champions in the Sabah Divisional Sports Carnival in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, recently.
The carnival, involving six sports — men’s futsal, women’s futsal, netball, men’s volleyball, women’s volleyball and badminton — attracted 15 private education institutions.
MUCH won the gold medal in the women’s futsal; silver in the men’s futsal, netball and men’s volleyball.
They were fourth in the women’s volleyball but lost in the second round in badminton in the three-day carnival.
The carnival, supported by the Higher Education Ministry, was hosted by Kolej Yayasan Sabah.
Besides MUCH, the other teams who took part in the carnival were Kolej Yayasan Sabah, Institut Pelancongan Asia, AMC The School of Business, Inti Kolej Sabah, Institut Sinaran, Kolej Teknologi Cosmopoint, Kolej PTPL Sabah, Kolej Antarabangsa Almacrest, Kolej Estern, Insitut Pengurusan Dinamil - Unitar, Twintech (IUCTT), Multimedia Kolej Sabah, Kolej Kesihatan Aseana and Kolej Commercial College.
MUCH Kota Kinabalu centre manager Victor Sylvester said it was the first time they had participated in the carnival.
“Our contingent comprised 75 athletes. We had also initiated a one-month training programme to prepare the athletes for the carnival. The athletes were motivated, disciplined and determined to put up a good performance in the carnival.
“The effort and dedication paid off and we were crowned the overall champions,’’ he said.
