Eating OutBy C.S.NATHAN
LOOKING for a place to wind down after a hectic work day or maybe just a place to meet friends over a few drinks and a quick bite?
Well, if you are in Seremban, you can now head to Bistro Paradiso situated at Klana Resort, to do just that.
Formerly a pub called Giggles, the recently launched outlet located on the fringe of the resort is a welcome addition to the local nightlife scene.
Hotel assistant food and beverage manager Mohamad Amir Abdullah said the outlet was re-packaged to suit current trends.
“We decided to try something new for a change and after brainstorming, the idea of a bistro seemed like an excellent choice.
“I believe its the first here and hopefully it’ll be a hit with the crowd,” he said at the outlet’s launch party recently.
Although the bistro is no competition for its city cousins, the management has to be complimented for their earnest effort in spicing up staid Seremban nights.
“People here don’t really have many choices when it comes to a night out. At least now they have a bistro to call their own.
“It’s a great place to relax and hang out. You can come for the food and stay for the music after dinner. Good food and music cannot go wrong,” said Mohamad.
Pub crawlers be warned. No mutton varuval or mamak mee goreng to satiate your hunger after a few drinks here.
However, you will be happy to hear that executive sous chef Abdul Razak Abdul Ghani has devised a simple but hearty menu of equally tempting Western-style favourites.
For starters, diners can choose from chicken caesar salad (RM15++), prawns bruschetta (RM25++) and chicken lyoner on baguette (RM20++) or if soups are more your thing, choose from a trio of potato and leek (RM7.50++), cream of forest mushroom (RM7.50++) or tomato with kidney beans (RM7++).
Mains is truly a meat-lovers’ paradise with grilled rib-eye (RM45++ per 180gram portion) and T-bone steaks (RM50++ per 300gram portion), grilled beef patties (RM35++ per 180gram portion), cajun chicken (RM30++) and jumbo sausages (RM30++ per 200gram portion) on the menu.
Chef Abdul Razak has also introduced chili con carne (braised minced meat in spices and ground chili), a spicy treat that should go down well with beer drinkers.
But if you want to give meat a miss, the pan fried red snapper served with mustard cream sauce (RM40++) is the way to go.
For a sweet finish to your bistro meal, diners can opt for the Tex-Mex apple pie served with vanilla ice-cream (RM7.50++), the pancake delight (RM7.50++) which consists of three mini pancakes layered with whipped cream and fresh fruit or just grilled pineapple in syrup (RM7.50++).
Albeit a pretty standard menu, the management’s idea was to introduce bistro fare before adding or removing menu items based on customer feedback.
The bistro can seat 85 and patrons can choose to be seated at the bar or at a cosy dining nook or right in front of the stage, if music is more your thing.
At the moment, entertainment is provided by Vision, an all-girl band, which performs nightly.
The KL-based music group is quite entertaining with their chereographed dance moves in step with the latest chart-toppers.
The band also performs a staple of popular dance and rock numbers as well as Hindi, Chinese and Malay songs.
Pool tables and an LCD TV will soon be added to the bistro for the benefit of sports fans.
The bistro is also an ideal spot to hold private gatherings such as product launches, birthday parties or cocktail events.
