KUALA LUMPUR: A permanent secretariat will be set up early next year to strengthen ties between Barisan Nasional Youth and the Communist Youth League of China (CYL).
Barisan Youth chairman Khairy Jamaluddin said the secretariat would facilitate continuous bilateral programmes to promote a stronger bond between the two entities.
“The secretariat would be set up after our delegation visit China sometime early next year,’’ he said after a courtesy call from the CYL delegation on Barisan youth leaders at Wisma Umno here on Monday.
Khairy said his predecessor Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein had already established ties with CYL of China and he was continuing the initiative.
“We want to strengthen inter-party ties as BN and the communist party of China are both ruling parties and both the governments have established good relationship,’’ he said, adding both countries had strategic interest in trade and investment.
Khairy also said that he was bombarded with anti-communist messages after he tweeted about the CYL delegation from China.
“There is this misconception about the communist party. But many people may not be aware that the communist party of China have adopted the open market policy, and they no longer subscribe to the communist system,” he said.
“They are also not terrorists who go around killing people in the jungle.”
