THE Medan Gopeng bus terminal in Ipoh will not be closed down should the defunct Medan Kidd bus terminal be revived, said Ipoh Datuk Bandar Roshidi Hashim.
He said the Medan Gopeng bus terminal would complement Medan Kidd and the newly proposed bus terminal in Meru Raya for a better public transportation system.
“After a discussion with the state government, it was decided that the Medan Gopeng bus terminal will remain as it is now,” said Roshidi after the city council full board meeting recently.
He noted that the Medan Gopeng bus terminal had also managed to reduce traffic congestion in the city area near the Medan Kidd bus station.
Roshidi said a committee had been set up to look into reviving the Medan Kidd bus terminal which had been closed since 2004 following complaints that the area was too congested.
He said the committee would be responsible in obtaining the views of the state government, Federal Government, bus operators and various government departments before reviving the terminal.
“As it involves a lot of parties, it will take some time before the terminal is reopened,” said Roshidi.
”We need to consider if the revival of the bus terminal will benefit everyone,” he said, adding that the committee would be headed by Ipoh City Council acting secretary Datuk Abdul Rahim Md Ariff.
