GEORGE TOWN: Mighty Terengganu will be missing the samba beat when they face Perlis for a Malaysia Cup semi-final berth at the Stadium Utama in Kangar tomorrow.
Terengganu's Brazilian midfielder Jocian Bento Dos Anjos, their only foreign player, was ruled out because of a hamstring injury sustained early in their 0-0 draw in the first leg of the quarter-final match at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Kuala Terengganu on Wednesday.
Terengganu had given their other two Brazilian imports – defender Fabio Flor and striker Gleason Freire – the boot last month.
“Dos Anjos is set to be out of action for a while because of the hamstring injury but Abdul Manaf Mamat is capable of taking his place,” said Terengganu coach Mohamed Nik in a telephone interview from Kuala Terengganu yesterday.
Mohamed, who felt they were unlucky not to win the first leg, said that he had confidence in his all-local side to overcome Perlis in Kangar.
“Although we failed to score in the first leg despite creating numerous chances, I am lifted by the fighting spirit shown by the young players, several of whom are President Cuppers, against Perlis who have three foreign imports,” said Mohamed.
“Our main task now is to score away-goals. If we can do that, Perlis will be under tremendous pressure, especially with the high expectations of their home fans.”
Mohamed will be banking on the likes of Ashaari Shamsuddin, Zairo Anuar Zailani, Che Hishamuddin Hassan and Liew Kit Kong, on loan from Kuala Muda Naza, to get the goals.
The Turtles too have the psychological edge, having beaten Perlis 1-0 at the same stadium in the first round of the Super League on Dec 29 last year.
