WITH the support from VIP guests, family, friends and colleagues, StarMetro reporter Stuart Michael raised RM15,600 for Help Home, a refuge for abused women in Selayang.
The Stuart Michael Charity Run held at the Subang Ria Park was the finale to his Beginner’s project, which started in October last year.
His initial target was to lose 20kg through a regime of exercise and healthy diet but due to work commitments, he only managed to shed 12kg.
Clark Hatch trainer K.K. Oon said Stuart started off well in the initial stages of his workout regime, going in about four times a week.
“The setback was the general election in March and he had to concentrate on work. It was a good thing that he managed to change his eating habits, taking in less carbohydrate, especially rice and eating more healthy foods like tosai or chapati and taking his drinks with little or no sugar,” said Oon.
Nevertheless, the run was a fun end to the project, with about 20 people joining him, including Selangor local government, research and development committee chairman Ronnie Liu and Selayang MP William Leong.
On top of the RM500 that Mega Lifesciences had agreed to sponsor for each kg that Stuart lost, Leong also pledged RM50 for each kg while Clark Hatch donated RM1,000 for each lap Stuart completed around the park.
During the event, Liu also donated RM1,000 on behalf of the Selangor state government while Clark Hatch provided 100 bottles of mineral water and apples for guests who turned up.
Stream Enterprise Sdn Bhd also sponsored 300 New Balance T-shirts worth about RM40 each, which were sold for RM10 each.
Overjoyed Help Home committee member Reinee Mastree was thankful for the money raised and mothers in the home would greatly benefit from the funds.
Also present at the event was Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh.
