IPOH Starwalk, one of Perak’s most exciting sporting events, will be held on June 15 this year. It will be flagged off at 7am from Stadium Indera Mulia in Ipoh.
Ipoh Starwalk 2008 is jointly organised by The Star and the Ipoh City Council with the co-operation of the Perak Govern-ment and Perak Amateur Athletics Association in conjunction with the city’s 20th anniversary.
There will be two categories – non-competition and competition with both categories covering 10km. Participation for both categories is limited to 7,500 people each. The competition category is divided into different gender and age groups.
Entry fee for non-competition walkers is RM8 per person while competition walkers will be charged RM12 per person. As in previous years, there will be lots of exciting prizes for lucky participants.
The closing date for entries is May 16. Entry forms can be obtained from The Star’s office at No 39, Jalan Hussein, 30250 Ipoh, from 9am to 5pm on weekdays. For details, call 05-2530 402.
Meanwhile, students of SM Sam Tet in Ipoh have once again showed their enthusiasm by being the first to pick up the entry forms.
School principal Phang Yoon Ming said 1,200 students from the school participated in the walk last year but he hoped to get more students to take part this year.
“The school has about 2,700 students. We hope that about 50% of them will register for the walk.
“We strongly encourage our students to take part in healthy activities,” Phang said, adding that students would be awarded with merit points for participation in co-curricular activity.
He said students from the school had parti-cipated in every Ipoh Starwalk since it was introduced in 2004.
