KUALA LUMPUR: The victory for opposition parties in the general election turned out to be an unexpected surprise not only for many Malaysians but also for their leaders.
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said he had expected winds of change to blow but did not expect it to blow that strong.
Lim, who is the incoming Ipoh Timor MP, said it was a great victory for all Malaysians.
"Malaysians are rejoicing on the tsunami results. They hope for a change in Malaysia and we will do what we can to ensure that the people's expectations are met for economics, democracy, accountability and transparency.
"This is a message that must be heard loud and clear by the leaders of this country," he said.
Teresa Kok Suh Sim, incoming MP for Seputeh, said the tremendous victory of the opposition parties in the election was really shocking for everybody.
