ALOR STAR: PKR's Zulkifli Nordin is free to contest the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary seat.
The Election Commission (EC) has ruled that the candidacy of Zulkifli, against whom a police report has been lodged, is not in question at this point of time.
Kulim-Bandar Baharu returning officer Mat Noh Ahmad had lodged a police report last Thursday, claiming that Zulkifli had failed to submit his statement of account for contesting the Kuala Langat parliamentary seat in Selangor in the 2004 general election.
State EC director Zakaria Abidin Zakaria said that as long as there was no action taken by the relevant authorities against Zulkifli, the latter was eligible to be a candidate.
The EC only has the power to reject his candidacy if an objection was raised during objection period on Nomination Day, he said.
The Barisan candidate for the seat is Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir.
