KUANTAN: Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR) members have been reminded to uphold the image of the Royal Malaysian Police.
Pahang police chief Datuk Ayob Mohamed said PVR members were bound by the same rules and regulations as the police force when they were on duty and must display a good image.
When you are wearing the uniform, you become part of the police force and the public will observe your movements, he said in his speech during a dinner hosted by PVR here recently.
Also present were Internal Security Deputy Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, National Crime Prevention Foundation vice chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm I Datuk Robiah Abdul Ghani and PVR commandant Supt Rumli Mohamed.
Ayob said that PVR members performed the same kind of duties as the police, namely to enforce the law and maintain peace and security.
On the general election, Ayob hoped all PVR members would work together to ensure order while the process took place.
For that, I need everyone to give their high commitment and dedication when discharging their duties, he added.
He also said, in recognition of the sacrifices shown by PVR members, the Government had in March last year agreed to increase their allowance from RM4.35 an hour to RM5.80 an hour for senior officers while those of the rank and file were paid RM4 hourly compared to the previous RM3.
I express my gratitude to PVR members who have worked tirelessly and I know they do not do so merely for monetary reward but because of their obligation to serve the country and protect its security, he said.
Ayob urged all OCPDs to highlight the role of PVR and find ways to attract more people to become members.
Fu, in his speech, said that RM10bil had been set aside for various development projects for the police under the 9th Malaysian Plan.
