PETALING JAYA: Newcomers Team Type 1 of the United States will be counting on Australian Matt Wilson to win a couple of stages for them when they make their debut in the nine-day Tour of Langkawi (LTdL) from this Saturday.
Team director Edward Beamon said the 30-year-old Wilson came with strong credentials, having won seven professional titles with his former Pro Tour team, Unibet.com, last year.
We are all keen to show what we are capable of, said Beamon,
Wilson has been in good form and we expect him to be a lot more aggressive and competitive in the Tour, added Beamon, who was previously in charge of the Navigators-Insurance team which took part in the LTdL three years ago.
And we want Wilson to win at least one or two stages,
The US-registered Team Type 1 racing outfit boast an array of international riders, led by captain Wilson, compatriot Fabio Calabria, Mexicos Moises Aldape, Americans Ben Brooks and Ian MacGregor New Zealands Glen Chadwick.
The teams other rider to watch out for is Chadwick, the New Zealand individual time trial champion who had previously raced for Giant Asia Racing.
Beamon said that Chadwick had been competing in several races in Australia and South America and would be up to the task in the LTdL.
