BATU PAHAT: Puteri Umno candidates contesting in the general election have been reminded to refrain from badmouthing their opponents, including character assassination.
Puteri Umno chief Datuk Noraini Ahmad said the same went for Puteri Umno members during the campaign period.
Noraini, 41, is contesting the Parit Sulong parliamentary seat replacing incumbent MP Syed Hood Syed Edros against PAS Faisal Ali.
For the Semerah and Sri Medan state seats, incumbents Datuk Ariss Samsudin and Ahmad Zahri Jamil are facing Muhammad Hasmi Hashim from PKR and Saja @ Mearaj from PAS respectively.
In MUAR, Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muyiddin Yassin said there were enough religious teachers or ustaz in the Pagoh constituency to meet the people's religious and educational needs.
Speaking to reporters, he said that PAS thought that voters in Pagoh needed an ustaz and brought one Mohamad Rozali Jamil to challenge him.
He said the division even had religious scholars, including Johor deputy mufti Datuk Tahril Kiayai Shamsuddin and he himself was the son of religious teacher Mohd Yassin who set up Sekolah Agama Mohd Yassin near Bakri.
We have more than what PAS can gather, he said after submitting his nomination forms in Pagoh yesterday.
To a question, Muhyiddin said the candidate for the Jorak state seat, Dr Shahruddin Salleh, was never an outsider to Umno and had been his political secretary for the past 10 years.
He knows all the branch heads and members in Pagoh and to say he is not well known is wrong, he added.
