Chancellor: Think of others’ welfare

PUTRAJAYA: Professionals in the health science industry must carry out their duties with care, sensitivity and provide services with a high level of professionalism.

Chancellor of Masterskill Uni- versity College of Health Science (MUCH), Raja Datuk Seri Azureen Sultan Azlan Shah, said they should also put other people’s welfare and well-being before their own.

“This is truly a noble profession. Noble values must be nurtured among health science professionals so that they can give their best to the society that needs their care and assistance,” she said.

Speaking at MUCH’s convocation, Raja Azureen said the country had seen private hospitals mushrooming since the mid 1980’s and high demand had, over the years, resulted in the health sector facing problems obtaining trained and skilled workers.

High honour: Raja Azureen receiving the charter of appointment as Chancellor of Masterskill University College of Health Sciences from Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Ir Idris Harun in Putrajaya Saturday.

She congratulated Masterskill for its initiative in setting up a nursing and health college, which had helped provide the workforce needed by the country’s private and public health sector.

Earlier, Raja Azureen, who is the eldest daughter of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, was proclaimed MUCH’s Chancellor.

The 50-year-old princess has a keen interest in public well-being and welfare and is the president of the Malaysian National Society for the Deaf.

She has devoted a large part of her life to the rehabilitation of the emotionally and psychologically disturbed, especially children.

Meanwhile, Masterskill Education Group Berhad chief executive officer Datuk Edmund Santhara said that Masterskill had evolved from providing nursing training to physiotherapy, pharmacy and medical laboratory technology programmes in just four years.

A total of 907 graduates received their scrolls from Raja Azureen at the graduation ceremony yesterday.
