Imam cries as he leads prayer

KUALA LUMPUR: Tears flowed freely as hundreds of people who turned up at the Taman Ibu Kota Muslim cemetery here to bid their final farewell to eight-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin. Even the imam, Mohd Aziz Elias Zahari, who led the prayers cried.

So heart wrenching was the death of Nurin, the victim of brutal murder and sexual abuse. She was buried at the cemetery at 2.25pm yesterday.

As the talqin (reading of the last rites) was being read, her father, Jazimin Abdul Jalil, who had been trying to remain calm during the earlier part of the day, broke down and hugged his wife Norazian Bistaman.

Relatives consoled the couple as those who gathered at the cemetery, including strangers, looked on with sadness and sympathy.

Earlier, Jazimin, who was clad in a pink baju melayu and black trousers, claimed Nurin's body at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary at 11.15am.

He managed to evade reporters and sped off in a hearse which brought Nurin’s body to the Madrasah As Sa’adah in Section One, Wangsa Maju here.

There, Jazimin managed a few words with reporters at the madrasah where he said he had accepted the fact that the body was Nurin's.

“I accept the DNA test results. I accept that she is my daughter,” he said.

After Friday prayers were performed, Nurin's body was brought in front of the congregation for the sembahyang jenazah (prayer for the dead).
