Norish Karman: Weekends are for the family

KUALA LUMPUR: Being a celebrity mum and a wife is not easy for many female artistes.

However, said actress Datin Norish Karman, neglecting the family due to demanding schedules is a lame excuse.

Living the dream: Norish is planning to chart a new path with the recording of her debut album soon.
She said that although she is much sought-after by producers, she is careful not to sacrifice valuable time with the family.

Comfortable to just be called NK, the actress who made her name in show business through the award-winning film Sayang Salmah in 1995, said:

“One thing that I want people to know is this: Norish Karman will not do any filming on weekends.”

The mother to three kids – Alysha Nur, 13, Hagiem Armany, eight and Hanyz Amanda, three – added that this, however, was not a condition for her to accept roles.

“They have to understand I have only two days for the family. For the rest of the week, my concentration is at the film location,” she told mStar, the Malay news portal of The Star.

The 33-year-old actress said she does not want to hear her children complaining that she has no time for them.

“My kids are still young. It is the time they need their parents most,” she said, adding that her husband had, on occasions, complained.

“No matter what, I make it a point to get up at 5am every day to prepare breakfast.

“At night, I sit with the children and help them with the school work.”

Norish is currently appearing in the 60-episode drama Spa Q on TV3, playing the role of problem-plagued spa owner Qistina.

Adding a new dimension to her career, she is in the process of entering the studios to record her debut album, a long held cherished dream.

She had won a gold medal at the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles last year, with her rendition of the Julfekar song, Ku Lakarkan Mimpi (I carved a dream).

“When I starred in Sayang Salmah, I was a nobody. It would be this way too in my singing career.

“I dare to take on the challenge as this is my dream.”
