Seas too choppy for small vessels

KUALA LUMPUR: The waters off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, and Sabah and Sarawak are currently unsafe for small boats as strong winds and high waves are expected to persist until tomorrow.

In the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, winds are expected to reach a speed of between 40kph and 50kph while the waves could be as high as 3.5m, said the Meteorological Department today.

Sabah and Sarawak were also expected to face similar conditions with the wind velocity reaching between 50kph and 60kph and waves as high as 4.5m.

The condition is dangerous to all waterway transportation, said the department.

It said the adverse weather condition was not due to Typhoon Utor moving from the south-east of Hainan island in China towards Vietnam. – Bernama
