KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet has suspended MIC Secretary-General Datuk S. Sothinathan from his post of Natural Resources and Environment Deputy Minister for three months, with immediate effect.
The decision was believed to have been made over Sothinathan's remarks made while debating the issue of the Malaysian Medical Council's de-recognition of Crimea State Medical University in Parliament on Tuesday.
During the debate, Sothinanthan was agitated by Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad's remarks that the majority of those who graduated from unrecognised universities were Indians.
He had asked why the MCC had recognised CMSU in 2001 if it was indeed professional and also wanted to know how many students from all countries were in the university and why weaknesses identified in 2003 and 2004 were not rectified.
