Subang Jaya: XOX Com Sdn Bhd, in partnership with Celcom (M) Bhd, is expected to roll out its mobile phone services as early as next month, targeting the Chinese market, and 500,000 subscribers in three years.
XOX was recently awarded the 010 prefix by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
XOX president Ng Kok Heng said the company is targeting the Chinese market as MVNOs are usually niche players.
“We will focus on the Chinese media content to address this community.
We will also be looking at local partners for the contents,” he said, adding that it aimed for 500,000 subscribers within two to three years of operation.
Celcom chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly described the partnership as win-win-win situation for both operators and consumers.
“We have been trying to capture the Chinese community but failed.
“Therefore we have decided to embark on this partnership,” he said.
“XOX could be new in this industry but they have been in operation for many years and they are very experienced in marketing.
“I believe they could reach the Chinese community segment effectively,” Shazalli added.
“XOX will leverage on Celcom’s extensive network to offer a full suite of mobile phone services that will be packaged and marketed under the XOX brand,” said XOX chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi at a signing ceremony between XOX and Celcom yesterday.
An MVNO is a company that offers mobile phone services like voice calls and short messaging service without a radio spectrum and telecommunications infrastructure like base stations, switches and transmitters. It rides on the infrastructure of incumbent mobile operators in offering its service.
