PORT DICKSON is set to get another five-star landmark when the construction of the Balinese-inspired Hibiscus Garden Chalets are completed in July next year.
Located in Tanjung Gemok near Port Dickson, the 74-unit single-storey landed dwellings, which will each have their own private swimming pools and landscaped indoor gardens are set to bring in more tourists, particularly foreigners to the shores of the resort town.
Once completed, the Hibiscus Garden Chalets will complement the role of its sister hotels — the 273-room Legend Water Chalets (LWC) and 234-unit The Legend International Water Homes (LIWH) — located adjacent to it.
Built by the Kuala Lumpur Metro Group in 2006 and 2009 respectively, both the hotels which command a majestic view of the Malacca Straits, have managed to bring in more than 300,000 tourists with more than half being foreigners.
Kuala Lumpur Metro Group chairman Datuk Mat Hassan Esa said many foreigners have made queries about the new development.
“Almost half the units have already been sold before the launch. We are confident that the remaining units would be snapped up in no time,” he said, adding that foreigners from 34 countries also owned units at the LWC and LIWH with the majority being from Britain, Hong Kong, Singapore and the United States.
Mat Hassan said the group has invested more than RM300mil for its projects in Port Dickson as it was confident of the seaside town’s ability to attract tourists.
“We are here as we believe PD, being one of the premier tourists destinations, has a lot to offer. Our designs are also unique as we want to cater to the tastes of foreigners,” he said.
However, he said a lot more could be done to promote the resort town.
“I was in Phuket recently and many foreigners, particularly Europeans whom I met said they stayed on there for up to three months. I believe PD also has the potential but we need to work together to make this happen,” he said.
Mat Hassan said the LWC and LIWH have also bagged international awards for their unique designs and quality workmanship.
Citing examples, he said the LIWH won the prestigious CNBC’s Inter-national Property Awards for “Best Architecture and Best Development” in London 2007 while The Hibiscus Garden Chalets recently bagged the “Asia Pacific Commercial Property Award” sponsored by Bloomberg Television.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan who launched the project earlier said the project would complement efforts by the state government to boost tourism in the state.
He said the state government had recently formed the Tourism Promo-tion Council so that concerted efforts could be carried out to spur economic growth related to tourism in the state.
The state government, he said, has also finalised a blueprint for Port Dickson after several sessions with residents here to achieve this.
“We are serious about PD because we know it has a lot to offer. We will gazzete the draft plan soon so that development here could be better planned,” he said.
He also urged hotels in Port Dickson to come up with special packages to lure tourists during weekdays and complement the state government’s efforts to promote tourism.
Mohamad said this would be a
win-win situation as some hotels enjoyed only 30% room occupancy during weekdays.
“It will be good if you (the hotels here) could work on this. You can’t even get a room here during weekends but it can be the opposite during the other days of the week,” he said.
Mohamad said several reputable companies have also stated their interest to set up medical centres here after Port Dickson was declared a wellness zone by the government last year.
“We are also developing the PD Water Front area near the town to bring in international brands and plans are afoot to build an international convention centre.
“If the hotels can bring down their room rates during the weekdays, they can also work with the managements of three golf resorts here and market this product to tourists including foreigners,” he said.
The Hibiscus Garden Chalet units range from 900sq ft to 1,600sq ft in size and are priced between RM550,000 and RM950,000.
Owners can lease them back to the developers for a guaranteed return of 12.5% per annum.
