PETALING JAYA: Former health minister Datuk Chua Jui Meng quit MCA to join opposition PKR on Saturday.
He was also joined by former MCA Senator David Yeoh and former Lumut MP Yap Yit Thong.
Chua said that he was joining PKR to help preserve the two-party system that had emerged after the polls last year.
“I know that I am leaving the comfort and security of my present life for a road less travelled, a tough and rough road and that ahead of me awaits hardships.
“I am prepared for this last hurrah of my life,” he said.
In Kuala Lumpur, MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said he was saddened by Chua’s move.
He expressed regret that Chua left the MCA when the party needed to strengthen itself after the Barisan Nasional lost several states to the Pakatan Rakyat in last year’s general elections.
“We should be united to face hardships together.
“I’m sad for his leaving, but I wish him the best,” Liow told reporters Saturday after opening the TSM Wellness Sdn Bhd pilates and yoga lifestyle club.
